Develop Workshops

Develop Photography Workshops London With Shane Taylor & Wesley Verhoeve

01 Who is this for

Photography stops being about the camera long before most people notice. What is left is how you see, and almost nobody is taught that.

It doesn’t matter where you are in your practice. What matters is that you care about street photography and want to do something meaningful with it.

  • You have a body of work but no clear through-line
  • You’ve been putting off a long-term project and want to finally start
  • You want honest, experienced feedback
  • You want to meet fourteen other people who all share a love of street photography

03 Why Develop

Not aSyllabus

i

You already have the technical part. What you do not have is a sentence describing what your work is about.

ii

A voice is not a style. It is the thing you keep photographing without deciding to, and it is already in your pictures.

iii

Editing your own work with the coldness you would give a stranger’s is the hardest skill in photography, and the most teachable.

iv

You leave with a project that has a scope, a shape and an end. Not a feeling.

05 The day

A full day, from finding your voice to planning your work.

10:00 – 11:30
Shane Taylor · Framelines

Teaching Session: Skills, Advice & Finding Your Voice

Shane leads the first teaching session, covering useful skills, and tips for taking street photos. Followed by a lesson designed to draw out what’s already there in your work: the recurring subjects, the instinctive gestures, the emotional territory you keep returning to without realising it.

12:00 – 13:30
Wesley Verhoeve · Process

Teaching Session: Building Your Vision

The second session moves from voice to action. Drawing on his experience mentoring 100+ photographers with his Process newsletter, and his ninety-six exhibitions at the International Center of Photography in New York, Wesley helps you shape that voice into a project with real direction and actionable steps.

13:30 – 14:30

Communal lunch

We break for a communal lunch together. Informal conversations, new connections, the kind of exchange that only happens when fifteen people who care about the same things sit down together.

14:30 – 16:30

Outdoor Street Photo Session

An outdoor group street photography session walking the city with your camera and fourteen other photographers, each with a clearer sense of what they’re looking for.

06 Who is teaching
Shane Taylor photographing on a street

ShaneTaylor

Framelines · @heroesforsale

Ten issues of a street photography magazine is ten issues spent looking hard at other people’s pictures. That is the useful part. He can usually tell you what your work is about before you can.

Wesley Verhoeve photographing, alone in open landscape

WesleyVerhoeve

Process · @wesley

Ninety-six exhibitions at the International Center of Photography, and several hundred photographers since. He is unusually good at the question everyone avoids: not is this a good picture, but what is this for.

07 From photographers Wesley has worked with
At no point did I feel as though I was dreaming too big. I have never felt more motivated to work on a personal project.
Carolyn West
It helped me silence the voices telling me I wasn’t good enough as a photographer.
Mine Manap Turel
He helped me with mindset, and with getting out of my own way to let the project flourish.
