Two teaching sessions through the morning, one each from Shane and Wesley. Lunch together. Then out for the afternoon into central Paris, from a base near the Seine.
This one has been and gone. A morning of teaching and a portfolio review with everyone in the room, lunch together, then an afternoon shooting the squares, market lanes and backstreets around Smithfield and Farringdon. Paris in November is the next one, with a second teaching session from Wesley.

It doesn’t matter where you are in your practice. What matters is that you care about photography and want to do something meaningful with it.
Photography stops being about the camera long before most people notice. What is left is how you see, and almost nobody is taught that.

Shane is an Irish photographer, known for a style of candid street photography that explores the hidden romance and poetry found in everyday city life. He is co-founder and editor-in-chief of Framelines Magazine, a street photography magazine, and has worked with 90+ of the most prominent names in street photography, including Garry Winogrand, Daniel Arnold, Matt Stuart, Melissa O’Shaughnessy and more. Shane brings an editorial eye honed by evaluating thousands of images across ten issues of Framelines to his workshops and portfolio reviews.
Teaches Paris
Wesley has spent fifteen years at the intersection of photography and curatorial practice. As Curator at Large at the International Center of Photography in New York, one of the world’s foremost photography institutions, he curated over 90 exhibitions and worked directly with hundreds of photographers on developing personal bodies of work. He now brings that experience to mentoring photographers through his newsletter Process, helping people move from a point of view to a finished project.
A full day, from first frame to a clearer sense of what you’re making.
One session, running through to lunch. Practical street technique first, then a longer look at what is already there in your work: the recurring subjects, the instinctive gestures, the emotional territory you keep returning to without realising it. With eight people in the room there was time for a portfolio review with each of them, which is why London was kept small.
We break for a communal lunch together. Informal conversations, new connections, the kind of exchange that only happens when a small group who care about the same things sit down together.

Shane leads the first teaching session, covering useful skills, and tips for taking street photos. Followed by a lesson designed to draw out what’s already there in your work: the recurring subjects, the instinctive gestures, the emotional territory you keep returning to without realising it.
The second session moves from voice to action. Drawing on his experience mentoring 100+ photographers through project development, and the 90+ exhibitions he curated at the International Center of Photography in New York, Wesley helps you shape that voice into a project with real direction and actionable steps.

Technique is the part everyone teaches. What almost nobody teaches is how to say what your work is about.
A voice is not a style. It is the thing you keep photographing without deciding to, and it is already in your pictures.
Editing your own work with the coldness you would give a stranger’s is the hardest skill in photography, and the most teachable.
You leave with a project that has a scope, a shape and an end. Not a vague sense that you should be making more work.
The others in the room will look at your work and tell you what they see. Most of them will notice something you have looked past for years.
